Anna and Conor One Year Ago

Here are my crazy kids, almost one year ago. They had their hair braided in Belize--this was taken on the cruise ship right after.

Yes, I know they have red eyes. I could have fixed that, but decided against it because the red eyes more accurately reflect their personalities.

Nowadays, Anna's hair is much longer and Conor has dreadlocks. I'll have to post more recent pictures of them for your viewing delight.

Conor has dreadlocks now? LOL My a lot has changed!

Yep. I'm not crazy about them, but he and his dad sure are. We had them done professionally, so he still washes his hair--just no brushing! I'll definitely take a picture tonight, if I remember.

Whatever happened to the pending move to Mesa? Obviously it's been awhile since we talked. Sounds like things are going well for you though!

I thought I posted about that on my lj an eon ago?

We found a place to rent, packed up 99% of the house, Darren got his Arizona license, and I gave my notice at my teaching job.

I saw this job I currently have advertised in the paper. I thought I'd never get it because it required accounting experience. I applied for it though, because I figured the interview process would be excellent experience for looking for a job in Mesa. I interviewed at 9:00 or so in the morning, and the position was offered to me at noon! I took it because it started at more than double what I made with the school district, and we decided it would look awesome on my resume.

So then Darren was going to move down with Anna, and Conor and I were going to stay here for a year or two and then move down as well. Darren put his notice in at work, and the powers that be offered him a little more to stay. He refused. They offered a little more. He still refused. Then they offered him quite a chunk more, more than he'd ever make at a hospital in the valley. So he decided to stay too!

The end result is we now make double what we made 18 months ago, and we get to live where we really want to live!

Now tell me about your job.

I probably missed a post somewhere in there. I knew about you getting your job and that Darren was going to move down and then you were, but hadn't caught up on things after that.

I'm still working for the Tribal Health Consortium here. Just have been promoted into a management position in the procurement department. I.e. the purchasing manager. Have a staff of eight. Started back on 10/01 in this position. Like it so far but we're going through a major restructuring in January so it will be interesting to see what happens. Most of my time is spent working and then photography as the hobby- which I am hoping I can at least build into a side business to get additional income coming in.

Did I ever tell you I met folks from a tribal health consortium at a training in Albuquerque last year? It's gotta be the same place you work--I can't imagine Anchorage having too many tribal health consortiums. One lady was in charge of the grants and contracts department, if I recall correctly, and the other was her assistant. I think. They were headed to Las Vegas after the training in Albuquerque...

I'm positive you can earn money from your pictures. They're always just so amazing!

I have no doubt the people you met were from here. We're the only consortium of tribes in the state. Our grants department has really taken off lately in terms of growth. Headed to Vegas as well? Must be nice. I have to travel for this job in January but I'm only going to Ketchikan (Southeast Alaska).

I do hope I can earn some extra funds. Photography is an expensive hobby. :) Would be nice to break even and then some.

Come down here and we'll go to Vegas together. Or we can meet there. Just imagine how much trouble we'll find!
